Old Andreans - Trevor Raymond (OA1982) returns to SACS
Friday, 25 February 2022

Trevor Raymond (OA1982) was the first Indigenous Australian to graduate from SACS and now works for the National Indigenous Australians Agency in Canberra. He visited Sydney for a business meeting last June, so he decided to stop into his old high school. He hadn’t visited since his own graduation but had heard great things about the Gawura School that had been founded in 2007. As we walked around the school, like most returning alumni, Trevor marvelled at the modern updates to the building and chuckled at familiarity of spaces like the Level 7 gym and the rooftop that brought back so many memories.

Trevor was also able to briefly meet and chat with Mr John Ralph, Head of Gawura, who was in between classes.

Trevor generously gave time to sit down and be interviewed by the School Historian, Victor Branson, who is currently writing a history of the school and was in the process of heading home, one foot in an elevator when we crossed paths with him. He excitedly jumped out of the lift when I introduced him to Trevor, exclaiming "I was just writing about you the last week!"
