Old Andreans - Where are they now - Kasarina Mann (OA2012)

Kasarina Mann (OA2012) has been in the Old Andreans Association’s spotlight recently as the recipient of the David Unaipon award for being a role model for Indigenous youth and current Gawura students. Kas is a proud Bama woman from Kuku Yalanji, Yidinji, Mbarbarum and Gugu Yimidthirr nations and a Gawura graduate. She has recently returned from her studies at Oxford University and is studying for a MD at Sydney University.  

 

Some of her many achievements include: 

  • Awarded a Rotary Indigenous Health Scholarship from 2016-2017. 

  • Received the University of Sydney Scholarship for progress in academic achievement and in 2018 and the Dr Charles Perkins AO Memorial Prize at Sydney University. 

  • Internship in 2018 at Australia's oldest medical research institute, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne  

  • Fellowship through Aurora from the Katrina Dawson Foundation. Kas was selected to participate in the Aurora International Academic Study Tour visiting the top-ranking universities in the world within the US and the UK.  

  • In 2020, Kas completed a Master of Science in Clinical Embryology at Oxford University.  

  • While at Oxford, Kas was presented the UK Chevening Scholarship and the Charles Perkins Trust Scholarship by the British High Commissioner to Australia, Victoria Treadell. 

  • In 2021, Kas returned to Australia and is currently undertaking a Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Sydney 


What an incredibly impressive collection of achievements. We are so proud to have such amazing talent in our Old Andrean and Gawura communities and wish Kas all the best in her studies.
