Our School's 140th anniversary was marked in style on Saturday 24 May, with the 140 Gala Ball held in the Grand Ballroom of the Fullerton Hotel.Held every two years, the Gala Ball is a much-anticipated event on the School calendar, but this year's party carried special significance as part of our 140 celebration. Many Old Andreans and Hessians were among the guests (with arguably the Hessians being the noisiest table) reconnecting with classmates, staff and friends over dinner, music and dancing. Hessian and long-time Theatresports coach Dave Callan was MC for the evening, bringing his trademark humour and warmth to the role. His lively rendition of 500 Miles was a favourite moment for many in the room. Old Andrean Daniel Bott (OA2024) made a memorable appearance as the glittering 'Mirror Man' and was easily the most photographed person of the night, while James Tarbotton (OA2016) captured the evening brilliantly through his photography. Guests were delighted by student pianists in the main foyer, enthusiastically bedazzled on arrival by our students, welcomed by a student jazz band and entertained by the Chamber Choir. They also enjoyed music from the Baker Boys Band, light-hearted games, and hilarious videos which playfully nodded to the School's culture and people. The event was the result of many months of planning, led by Lyn Jarvis and the Community Engagement Team, who worked alongside staff and volunteers to deliver a well-organised and meaningful celebration. For many Old Andreans and Hessians, the Gala was a welcome opportunity to reflect on their time at the School and to take part in the ongoing celebrations marking 140 years of St Andrew's Cathedral School. |
