It was amazing to welcome so many Old Andreans back to School for the fifth edition of our flagship careers event Learning the Ropes. More than 400 students from Years 9 to 12—along with their parents— took part in the biennial careers event designed to offer practical, real-world insight into life after school. Now in its fifth year, the event has become a signature initiative of the Old Andrean Association, connecting current SACS students with the wisdom and experience of those who once walked through the same school corridors. The evening brought together an extraordinary group of more than 80 industry professionals, representing over 50 different career paths—with the vast majority being Old Andreans. From recent graduates navigating their first jobs to seasoned experts leading in their fields, the event offered something for every student exploring their next step. Across the night, SAH and the Chapter House came alive with conversation and curiosity as students asked thoughtful questions, parents engaged in lively discussions, and Old Andreans shared honest, generous advice drawn from their own journeys. Whether students were considering university, trades, creative industries, healthcare, law, finance, or something entirely different, they walked away with greater clarity and confidence in what their future might hold. A highlight of the evening was the panel session, featuring four Old Andreans who followed very different paths —Lucy McJannett (OA2015), Izabella Louk (OA2015), Joey Watson (OA2014), and Rachel Durmush (OA2015)—facilitated expertly by Thomas Stevens (OA2015). Their reflections on post-school pathways, career detours, and life lessons provided a realistic perspective which was thoroughly appreciated by students and parents alike. Events like these are only possible thanks to the generous support of our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the Old Andreans who volunteered their time, as well as to our dedicated Community Engagement Team for their outstanding coordination. The ongoing collaboration between the School and the Old Andreans Association continues to be a powerful example of what makes the our community so special. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this memorable evening—we're already looking forward to the next one in 2027! |
